Summer 07
- At this years Town Centre Management AGM on 11th September, Guest speaker Mo Aswat, Executive Director of the Bedford BID, (with over 10 years of practical town centre management experience and advisor to 5 other successful BIDs) gave an interesting and informative presentation on the improvements to Bedford town centre since businesses voted in favour of a BID in March 2005. Mo explained that since the BID was established, a number of exciting initiatives have been implemented making Bedford town centre a cleaner, safer friendlier place for everyone to enjoy. With an increase in retail spend and a significant decrease in crime.

Spring 07
- The Falkirk BID management team, undertook a comprehensive market research project, to obtain the views on the town centre, of businesses located within the BID area. 500 on street interviews were conducted by one of the county’s leading research company’s, to establish the public’s perception of the town centre.

- BIDs Scotland officially launched in Hollyrood by the then Finance Minister Tom McCabe. - Legislations on The Business Improvement District (Scotland) Regulation 2007, The Business Improvement District Levy Order 2007 and The Business Improvement District (Ballot Arrangements) (Scotland) Regulations 2007 has now been passed. (see Downloads).

- A BID Steering Group has been established and now meets on a regular basis to lead and deliver the BID in Falkirk. Representatives from large national businesses, small independents, franchisees, hospitality, and the financial sector are included. At the inaugural Steering Group meeting, on 21st March 2007. Alastair Mitchell, Town Centre Manager, gave a presentation on the process involved in establishing a BID in Falkirk. Guest speaker on this occasion was Andy Godfrey, Public Policy Manager of Boots Alliance plc, who gave a stimulating insight into BIDs in England from a leading business perspective.

Winter 06
- In late 2006 Falkirk Town Centre Management responded to the Scottish Executive’s challenge to find 6 locations in Scotland to become pilot BID towns. Falkirk’s application was successful, and we were appointed along with Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Bathgate and Clackmannanshire (business parks) to lead the BID process in Scotland. The Executive have provided the sole funding for this process which will run until the ballot due to take place in Spring 2008.
